The Masamune in FF1
The Masamune is the strongest weapon available in FF1 and the only item that can be used by any class. It is located on the Air floor of the Temple of Chaos, on which the warriors must face their second battle with Tiamat. It's described in game as the “mightiest sword of all” and its graphic resembles are large katana.

You're both right, the masamune WAS the most powerful weapon in the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy, but in the remakes, the Ultima Weapon is the strongest. And they are both capable of being equiped by any class. but I'm guessing the last post was made by a dickhead that's only twelve and didn't stop to consider that Final Fantasy was around long before his/her retarded parents decided to fuck without a condom. You suck at life and should really consider killing yourself...idiot.

I don't know very much considering my lack of doctorate degree, but I'd estimate the latter to be correct.
